Ward Cammack Backs Kimmy Mac

By: Chas Sisk
Published on March 9, 2010

Ward Cammack, whose bid for governor washed out last year, now says he’s endorsing former House Majority Leader Kim McMillan’s gubernatorial bid. The endorsement comes with a campaign job for Cammack — policy adviser on environmental issues.

Cammack endorsed state Sen. Jim Kyle last month, but he too dropped out of the race. McMillan and Mike McWherter, a Jackson beer distributor and the son of former governor Ned Ray McWherter, are the only two remaining Democratic candidates.

The complete presser is after the jump:

Kim is clearly determined to lead Tennessee into the Green Economy, and that is why I am endorsing her candidacy and making an immediate contribution,” Cammack said.

McMillan has a proven record on environmental issues and has received accolades on her legislative record from the Tennessee Conservation Voters organization. “A sustainable environmental and energy strategy will position our state to take advantage of the growing green economy and create the jobs of the future,” said McMillan.

Kim McMillan in Knoxville

Kim McMillan, Democratic candidate for Governor of Tennessee, was in Knoxville on Friday night at the Knox County Democratic Party Headquarters along with Chip Forrestor, head of the Tennessee Democratic Party. They were both given a warm greeting by the gathering of Knoxville Democrats. Kim gave a strong speech supporting economic and educational growth in Tennessee. When an enthusiastic supporter pointed out that she was also a woman, Kim eagerly answered her by stating that she wanted people not to vote for her only because she was a woman but because she was the candidate with the best ideas and experience who also happened to be a woman, the only woman in the gubernatorial contest.

Saturday, Kim will deliever the keynote address at the monthly meeting of the Boyd Cloud Democratic Club. All Democrats are invited to attend. If you missed Kim on Friday, please join us:

Gubernatorial Candidate Kim McMillan in Roane County

Submitted by WhitesCreek on March 5, 2010 - 8:54pm.

We had a great time talking with Kim McMillan today. If qualifications won political races this one would be over and Tennessee would historically have it's first Woman as Governor. McMillan has more credentials for Governor than all the other candidates in both parties combined as several Roane Countians found out today.

McMillan hopes to succeed Phil Bredesen as Governor of Tennessee and already has an impressive record of achievement behind her. McMillan was the first woman elected House Majority Leader in the history of Tennessee when Bredesen asked her to move up and serve in his cabinet during his first term. Roane Countians got to see first hand why Bredesen asked her to serve at the higher level as she visited Rockwood, Kingston and other communities in Roane County today.
